1. Reflection

10 Reasons for Beginning the Day with a Devotion

Reason #3: Holy Communion

Yesterday, I spent time remembering the person I once referred to
as, "My Finest Champion." Frederick Jesse Jones was my champion, teacher, and father. Among my memories is the way he used to sit in solitude at the kitchen table early in the morning.
As I child, I often observed him just sitting with his head bowed.
Another great African American male, legendary baseball
pitcher,
Satchel Paige, once said, "Sometimes you need to sit and think,
and sometimes you need to just sit." When my father was just
sitting, I instinctively knew something more was happening,
something that I could never see, but could always feel. I can
still feel it, now through my stillness: being touched afresh and anew by Loving Grace. At such time one need only be still--and receive
in a spirit of sweet surrender.

"Never treat anyone any better than you treat yourself."

"You are no less precious to God than the work you do
or the people you serve."

3. Testimony

"Please note that I did have my B.R.E.W. today! I've
had the kind of morning that made my heart cry out
AMEN." Today, when the pit of hell opened up with a
phone call to my office, I had been up for a couple
of hours and I was rested, fresh, and alert enough
that God was able to use me!"
